GRE

The GRE is a multi-level, standardized multiple-choice test that assesses verbal thinking, quantitative thinking, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills. This test is taken by students who wish to study abroad for their master’s or doctorate. The test is designed to estimate the intellectual and logical abilities of the student. This is a computer-based test that is tailored to the student’s responses.

Test takers can skip questions and can also change their answers. The exam is conducted by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and is accepted by universities, colleges and educational institutions around the world. The test is a comprehensive testing system designed to assess a student’s critical and analytical skills related to numbers and language.

FORMAT

The examination lasts for about 3 hours and 45 minutes and can be is both computer based as well as paper based. The computer based GRE has four sections – analytical writing (two separately timed tasks), verbal reasoning (two sections), quantitative reasoning (two sections) and an unscored or research section. The analytical writing and verbal reasoning sections are allotted about 30 minutes each while the quantitative reasoning section is given about 35 minutes. The timing for the unscored section varies.

The GRE on paper has three separate sections: analytical writing (two sections), verbal reasoning (two sections), and quantitative reasoning (two sections). The candidate is rated on a scale of 130 170 per section, and a score of 151 in verbal and approximately 153 in quantum is considered above average. Students can repeat the exam every 21 days up to five times a year. The student can send his best results to the institute he wants to apply to, he can send the result through the Score Select option, which is only available for GRE tests. GRE scores play an important role in getting students the admissions they want.
